Citizens Advice Celebrates 85 Years of Service
Citizens Advice (CA) is proud to announce its 85th anniversary, marking nearly a century of unwavering dedication to providing free, confidential, and impartial advice to millions of people. Since its establishment in 1939, Citizens Advice has been a cornerstone of support, guiding individuals through times of crisis and helping them to navigate complex issues.
Over the past 85 years, the CA has evolved to meet the changing needs of society. From its humble beginnings, addressing the immediate needs of communities during World War II, to becoming a modern, accessible service available online and via telephone, Citizen Advice has remained steadfast in its mission: to provide the advice people need for the problems they face and improve the policies and practices that affect their lives.
National Key Milestones
1939: The first 200 offices opened, helping communities cope with wartime challenges.
1957: Introduction of the Service Charter, setting out the principles and values guiding the organisation.
1999: Launch of the online advice services, expanding accessibility.
2014: Integration of digital tools, including web chat and email advice, to reach a broader audience.
The Key milestone for Citizen Advice Leighton-Linslade is that we are celebrating 50 years next year, we first set up in November 1975 in Leighton Road, we moved to our present location in Bossard House, West Street in 1989. We have a volunteer team of nearly 50 people plus seven staff: Chief Officer, Advice Services Manager, Training Supervisor, two Money Advice Caseworkers and two Administrators.
Across the country Citizens Advice has been instrumental in helping people manage a wide array of issues, including debt, housing, employment, and consumer rights. In the past year alone, advisers handled over 2.6 million client issues, demonstrating the continuing relevance and necessity of its services.
As the CA celebrates this significant milestone, it is also looking towards the future. The organisation is committed to expanding its digital presence, ensuring that even more people can access its services anytime, anywhere. CA are also focusing on advocacy work, striving to influence policy changes that will create a fairer society for all.
